Captain Brian Schiff
Brian Schiff is a seasoned captain for a major US airline, with a deep-seated passion for general aviation. Over his career, he has accumulated an impressive 20,000 hours of flight time across a wide range of aircraft and has flown 98 different types.
As an esteemed member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), Brian's expertise and experience have earned him the distinction of being an active 38-year Gold Seal flight instructor and FAA Safety Team Representative. He possesses multiple flight instructor ratings and an exceptional ability to simplify complex procedures and concepts while maintaining a contagious enthusiasm for aviation and teaching.
Furthermore, Brian has been an FAA-designated examiner, allowing him to conduct examinations of pilots. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and his Master of Science Degree in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri.
Brian is a highly respected figure in the aviation community and is sought after for his engaging and informative seminars on aviation safety and techniques. He is passionate about educating students and professional pilots and is committed to upholding the highest standards of aviation instruction and promoting aviation safety.
Captain Mike Jesch
Captain Mike Jesch is an accomplished aviator with over four decades of flying experience. At work, he’s a Captain on the Boeing 787 for a major U.S. Airline, overseeing long-haul flights with expertise and precision. But Captain Jesch's roots in the GA world are deep and enduring.
He earned his first pilot license while still in high school and his instrument rating in a Cessna 150 equipped with vacuum tube radios. Mike is an active flight instructor and has been a CFI for 40 years. He is a two-time Master CFI. He has owned his personal Cessna 182, based in Southern California, for over fifteen years. Mike captivates and engages his audience with his relaxed teaching style.
Recognizing his dedication and commitment to aviation, Captain Jesch serves as a FAASTeam Lead Representative in the Long Beach District. Additionally, he was recently named the 2023 LGB District FAASTeam Representative Of The Year, and the Western Pacific Region Rep of the year in 2021, a testament to his unwavering enthusiasm and contributions to aviation safety.
Robert Meder
Bob has been a life-long aviation enthusiast, having grown up watching airliners approach O’Hare runway 22R from his childhood home in Chicago’s north suburbs. He started fulfilling that enthusiasm by earning his private pilot certificate in 1995. He has been a CFI since 2001 and holds single and multi-engine with instrument privileges. Bob currently has over 7,000 hours of flight time, most of which has been as a flight instructor, helping others achieve their goals.
Bob came to aviation in a somewhat non-traditional path. He decided to learn to fly as a hobby and discovered that he has a passion to share his knowledge with others. He brought to aviation his experience in safety-critical positions during his 40-year career with a major rail carrier, while insights he gained while flying informed his rail career. Bob has embraced new technologies in both worlds, having been a contributing editor of a book about glass cockpits and culminating in establishing a large industrial UAS (drone) program at his company before retiring.
Bob served as chairman of the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) for eight years and continues to serve on the organization’s board. He also participates in several industry-level safety committees, promoting best practices in aviation. Bob is also a FAASTeam Lead Representative, having been awarded St. Louis FSDO representative of the year in 2010. In addition to that award, he was also the 2009 St. Louis CFI of the Year, the 2010 Lincoln FSDO CFI of the Year, and the 2010 FAA Central Region CFI of the Year.
Bob currently resides with his wife in the St. Louis area.
